Chemical peels are traditionally done at the dermatologist’s office. Today, however, chemical peel kits are available to the regular buyers. The price of chemical peel is usually around $100, which is rather cheap compared to a chemical peel session at the dermatologist’s office which costs around $500. With this, it is easier to comprehend why more and more people are trying at-home chemical peels.

Chemical peels

work by removing the top skin layers containing damaged and dead skin cells and thus revealing clearer and healthier skin. Chemical peels can do wonders to the skin with imperfections like acne scars, wrinkles, fine lines, freckles and dark spots among others.

There are many chemical peel types in the market today that are appropriate for home use. This also means that not all chemical peels can be used by individuals in treating their skin problems. Strengths of acids used in at-home chemical peels are usually milder compared to those that are used in a dermatologist’s office. Nonetheless, the amount is enough to treat skin imperfections.

The mildest

chemical peel

is the hydroxy acids, which could be either AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) or BHA (beta hydroxy acid). AHA can be derived from fruits and plants, hence is naturally occurring. AHA can only be used for slight skin imperfections like dark spots and uneven skin tone since this is considered as a superficial peel. AHA can be glycolic acid or lactic acid. The former is obtained from sugarcane. It is used in treating uneven skin tone as well as fine lines. The allowable concentration is about 10 to 30%. The latter is derived from milk. It is also used in treating uneven skin tone, fine wrinkles and mild acne scars.

Salicylic acid is one subtype of BHA. Salicylic acid is milder than glycolic and lactic acids. Salicylic acid is obtained from willow trees. Salicylic acid is mostly used for superficial peeling using the allowable concentration of about 20 to 30%.
Trichloroacetic acid or TCA is another chemical peel apt for home use. TCA chemical peel is deeper than hydroxy acids but is generally considered safe for home utilization. The allowable concentration is up to 30% which means anything higher than this is risky.

The choice of at-home chemical peel depends on the severity of the skin imperfection. Hydroxy acid can be used for superficial peels while TCA is used for a much deeper peel. The skin will require a few days before peeling will start. There are specific precautions that you must consider before and after each peel.

Azelaic acid is considered to be very effective in treating acne as well as rosacea. If you are wondering how it does this, azelaic acid as it has both anti-proliferative and anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties can facilitate skin renewal. When you use products that are azelaic acid-based, you will notice that the development of papules is decreased thereby lowering the instances of outbreaks. How azelaic acid functions and its features and effects will be discussed in here.

Most azelaic acid products are applied topically; they usually come in cream or gel form.

Azelaic acid

is very effective in fighting against mild and moderate acne. Specifically, it addresses inflammatory acne including papules and pustules and cysts. Similar to Retin-A, azelaic acid is commonly prescribed by dermatologists to various skin conditions. It must be applied twice a day: in the morning and in the evening. However, like any other skin care products, you have to be patient in using the product to see the desired result. It may take up to 2 months to see changes in your skin condition. Treatment duration may also vary on the extent of your acne or rosacea.

The acceptable amount of

azelaic acid

is 15 to 20%. This allowable concentration equalizes the amount that our body absorbs naturally. This means that even if you put additional amount of azelaic acid on affected areas the result will still be the same. Your acne will not leave quicker even when you apply and reapply azelaic acid throughout the day. While it may not aggravate your skin, the level of toxicity in your body will increase. Further, you have to protect your eyes, ears, nose and lips when applying azelaic acid. You have to wash your hands too after every application.

You have to carefully watch how your body reacts to azelaic acid. When you experience dryness, itching, burning or stinging, it would be best to apply azelaic acid once a day. These are usually experienced when you start using a skin care product, and azelaic acid is no exemption. These symptoms will subside though after a few days. If these persist, you have to stop using it since topical applications may not be for you. Severe side effects are very rare though thus using azelaic acid is generally safe.

TCA Peels or Dermabrasion – Which is Right for You?

We all want to look our very best, but deciding the right way to do that is not easy. TCA chemical peels and dermabrasion are just two ways men and women try to regain their youthful looks. On the surface, these to procedures seem similar however there are important differences clients should be aware of before choosing the procedure for them.

Dermabrasion is a mechanical peel that uses crystals and suction to exfoliate the skin. A small, rapidly spinning wheel with a fine grain surface – almost like sandpaper – is moved across the face to remove age spots, blemishes and scars. Usually dermabrasion is only used on problem spots on the face, rather than the entire face. If you want to give a fresh look to your entire face, dermabrasion is not the right choice.

Chemical peels, including TCA peels, use chemicals to exfoliate the face and remove dead skin cells. The peel will be applied to the face, allowed to reach the appropriate depth and then neutralized. The client’s face will begin to peel for four to seven days after the chemical peel is applied. Once the peeling is complete, the client will be left with brand new, beautifully refreshed skin. For clients who want a fresh look for their entire face, the

TCA Peel For Beautiful Skin

are the perfect choice.

Both dermabrasion and TCA peels are used to fix superficial problems on the face, including acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles and large pores. Since both procedures resurface the skin, it is vital to choose only one. Having both a chemical peel and dermabrasion can cause serious scarring.

One of the biggest advantages of choosing chemical peels is they allow the client to decide how strong of treatment he or she will receive. Dermabrasion has only one strength, but chemical peels come in light, medium and deep strengths. These different chemical peel depths allow the client to target specific problems on his or her face. With only one depth, the client is left to hope it is enough to solve the problem without the treatment going too deep.

The effectiveness of dermabrasion and chemical peels differs greatly. Dermabrasion will not show results until after six to twelve sessions. Each of these sessions must occur at least two weeks apart or the client may experience scarring. The dermabrasion sessions must be repeated every two to three months for maximum effectiveness. Medium chemical peels can be applied every few months and their effects may last up to one year.

Dermabrasion and TCA peels may seem similar, but there are important differences between the two procedures. Many chemical peels use natural ingredients to remove dead skin from the entire face, while dermabrasion uses a sandpaper-like substance to target specific problem spots. Chemical peels can remain effective much longer than dermabrasion and allow clients to choose the perfect peel depth to solve their skin woes. When looking at the benefits of chemical peels and dermabrasion, the choice to have a chemical peels is made simple!

Can TCA Peels Remove the Tattoo?

Tattoo had become a staple in the popular culture with 1 in every 4 people has a tattoo. Some people acquired their tattoos due to peer pressure and they later regret their decision of having one. The next best thing would be to discard the tattoo for good. There are some options in removing a tattoo, one of which is TCA. However, not all people are convinced of its effectiveness.

TCA peel is better known as a chemical peel. is a water-like acidic solution. TCA is generally safe to use in removing tattoo hence it is a non-prescription solution. TCA works in two ways. First, you may use it to completely remove the tattoo and second, it can be used to lighten ink colors that laser removal technique cannot easily remove. In this way, lesser laser treatment would be required.

Further, TCA is applied on the tattooed area which can eventually cause controlled inflammation. The tattooed area will then start peeling after a week or two of TCA application. Ink pigments will then break apart and these will be shed along with the old and dead skin on the upper layer of the skin. In fading or removing the tattoo, there will be a need for 6 or more peeling. This is the reason why TCA has to be reapplied after 4 to 5 weeks.

It would be definitely impossible to predict how long the tattoo would be completely removed. This will depend on the size and color of the tattoo. This also depends on who inked the tattoo. Compared to professionally inked tattoos, those tattoos inked by amateurs tend to have higher success rates. Evidently, TCA is highly effective and highly advisable if you want to get rid of unwanted tattoo(s).

Scarification effects of the TCA then will depend on many individual factors as well that are not really tattoo-related. One of these factors is the skin type. Because of this, the reactions of our skin to chemicals also vary. It would be best to conduct a test so that you may determine if your skin will react harshly when you apply a small amount of TCA. Nevertheless, TCA is generally safe to use that is why it can be purchased even without prescription.

Skin Lightening Treatments

Various skin discolorations like freckles, cane scars and dark spots could be lighten using topical applications. Skin lightening products can lighten and even out a person’s complexion over time. While there are skin lightening treatments that require the individual to visit the dermatologist’s office, there are treatments that can be done at home. However, you must know how to properly use skin lightening applications so that risks could be minimized. What these products can do is to partially block melanin production. Melanin is responsible for giving our skin its color.

The two most common method of skin lightening are using whitening creams, gel or lotion and chemical peels. Skin Whitening products can be used along with skin exfoliant. You have to exfoliate the skin first before attempting to apply any skin whitening product. Exfoliation simply means getting rid of dead skin cells. Skin whitening- Skin Bleaching will be more effective when the skin is well-exfoliated.

When you are using skin whitening creams, you may also use a moisturizer. You have to apply the moisturizer after each application especially at night before you go to sleep. Whitening applications are usually applied twice daily. Moisturizer helps in minimizing the onset of some minor side effects like drying, peeling and burning.

Of course, you must use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher even for casual exposure to the sun. When you use any skin care product your photosensitivity increases. It would only be futile to use a skin whitening product if you go outdoors frequently. Our skin produces melanin when we are exposed to the direct sunlight. While the product that you are using blocks melanin production, the melanocytes can still produce such, darkening the skin in the process. If you cannot avoid going out, you must wear protective clothing.

Further, chemical peels are slowly regaining the confidence of the people who want lighter skin due to its effectiveness. A chemical peel speeds up the turnover of the epidermis, removing melanized keratinocytes. This can result into the lessening of melanin in the skin which could lead to whiter skin. However, because the process is chemical-based, it must not be used on a daily basis. Peeling should be repeated between four to six weeks. This period allows the skin to recover from peeling which usually occur in two to three weeks.

Skin Bleaching Skin Lightening Products with Monobenzone

Monobenzone is used if the person wants to achieve lighter skin tone. However, monobenzone is not for everybody. Monobenzone was actually created for people with vitiligo. Vitiligo is a skin disease which affects 1 out of 100 people. If you suffer from vitiligo, your melanocytes are basically damaged. Melanocytes produce melanin which gives our skin its color.

You can eventually notice white patches in your skin, affecting various parts of the body including the hair and insides of nose and mouth. This is called universal vitiligo. Nevertheless, it can be also generalized or segmental. The former refers to the existence of white patches in symmetrical forms and the latter refers to the existence of such in half of the body.

The cause of vitiligo is not known and there are few theories that exist relating to the cause of such. There are some known causes but these are too general. These are: genetically-related, environmentally-related and due to autoimmune abnormalities. As such, vitiligo can affect anyone regardless of the color of the skin. Vitiligo is not also age-dependent though it was developed even before the person turns 20. Finally, vitiligo is not contagious hence you will not catch it when you had a direct contact with a person with vitiligo. Find more information about skin bleaching with more articles to come.

On the other hand, monobenzone refers to a depigmentation agent, recommended for people with extensive vitiligo. Monobenzone is administered to the person with bigger white patches that a repigmentation would only be useless. Monobenzone is very effective in killing melanocytes so that it’ll no longer function. In this way, the skin’s color will stay that way through the use of monobenzone.

With continued use, say about a year or two, monobenzone can yield pigment-free skin. It will even out the skin’s complexion, and the vitiligo sufferer may no longer have to experience white patches. The pigment-free skin must be carefully maintained though. Sunlight must be avoided as much as possible. We all know that melanin is produced when you are exposed to the sun. You might be wondering how this can be possible for a pigment-free skin. The answer is that monobenzone penetrates the epidermal and dermal structures but not that follicle reservoir which can also produce melanin. Wear sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher or wear protective gears when you go out.

The effectiveness of using TCA Trichloroacetic acid as a method of tattoo removal.

What Is TCA?

Trichloroacetic acid, or simply TCA, refers to a skin peeling chemical in reducing and removing acne scars and wrinkles and other skin condition. TCA also aids in removing tattoos. Nevertheless, its effectiveness in removing such is not yet established. It is the goal of this article to discuss what makes TCA a very effective tattoo removal method.

TCA is continuously tested in laboratories to determine how it can help in further fading and removing the tattoo entirely though it was already proven that it can do such. However, not all people are convinced of this. What these people did not know is that even before the introduction of laser tattoo removal treatments, tattoos were actually removed using chemicals. TCA is just one among the chemical agents that dermatologists used. The increasing popularity of TCA removal is because of the costliness of laser removal method hence TCA is an alternative.

Combining TCA and Laser Tattoo Removal

If you are wondering if it can be used along with laser treatments, the answer is yes. After a laser treatment or two, you can eventually resort to using TCA in fading your tattoo, saving you from the cost of the laser treatment. Definitely, if TCA is able to completely get rid of the tattoo then there would be no need for a laser treatment. Evidently, TCA can be administered either pre- or post-laser treatment. However, this will depend on the size of the tattoo. Small tattoos, further, can be removed in a few months. You may have to do large tattoos in parts though.

Effectiveness of TCA Tattoo Removal

The effectiveness of TCA is due to the promotion of turnover of the skin cells, causing peeling of the skin where TCA is placed. The tattooed area is slowly covered by new skin cells when they form. This is why tattoos are lightened and entirely removed in the process.

Further, one of the most common concerns of the people is whether TCA is painful or not. The application of TCA is not a painful method though minor skin irritation may be experienced especially during the first few days of application. This is a normal skin reaction though and should go away eventually. Since it is chemical, you will definitely experience pain if you will apply TCA on inflamed or wounded skin. You may take pain medications before you apply TCA on the tattooed area.

Tips in Using TCA for Tattoo Removal

Trichloroacetic Acid, or simply TCA, can be administered at home. TCA is actually a strong exfoliant wherein you have to apply the solution on the tattooed area. The acid can peel off the epidermis, the upper of the skin, peeling away the skin that holds the ink. Since TCA is basically an acid, there are specific precautions that you must remember.

You have to test TCA for skin reactions. Before you even apply the solution on the tattooed area, apply a small amount of the solution using a cotton swab. Apply the solution on an obscure part of the body. Frosting up of the area where you apply the solution could be noticed. This is just normal since the skin is reacting to

the chemical. Negative skin reaction is signaled by intense, unbearable pain or swelling. Discontinue the use of the TCA if negative skin reactions are present. Nevertheless, if there are no adverse reactions, you may continue using the product. While you may use 100% TCA solution, the advisable concentration for removing tattoos is between 12 to 25%. If you will use concentration higher than this, this might lead to scarring which will be another problem. You also have to wait for at least 4 weeks before you may reapply the solution. The ideal period is six weeks though. Excessive application of TCA may lead to higher levels of toxicity in your skin which is basically not healthy.

TCA works on every skin type. However, tattoos on individuals with lighter skin tones could fade and be removed quicker using TCA. People with darker skin tones who also want to get rid of their tattoos may experience hypopigmentation. The treated area will be eventually less pigmented than the rest of the body. Patch of lighter skin could be noticed after the treatment. TCA can only lighten the tattooed area and its surrounding. Evidently, a tattoo will look more desirable than having a hypopigmented part of the body.

If the tattoo was inked on less obvious areas, then the decision to use TCA will depend on you, that is, if you have darker complexion. Hypopigmentation will not be that much of a problem if you can cover it up. In this way, you will not subject yourself in embarrassing situation since no one will know that you are hiding a hypopigmented part beneath your clothes.

Olive Oil Skin Lightening Skin Whitening Recipes

Olive oil can be used for more than just adding flavor to your favorite pot roast recipe or spaghetti and meatballs. Olive oil has been used ever since biblical times and the skin care benefits of olive oil are tremendous. When you drop some olive oil and lavender oil in your bath water, your skin becomes lighter and moisturized at the same time. And instead of using flavored lip balm for dry and cracked lips this winter, use olive oil and a little yogurt to lighten and hydrate those lips. Olive oil is also good for acne. Just wash your face with an oil-free acne cleanser then rub some olive oil over your face then pat dry with a paper towel. Here are some homemade recipes for using olive oil as a skin lightening remedy.

One idea is make a facial mask with olive oil, lemon juice and honey. The lemon juice and olive oil work well together to lighten and rejuvenate your face. You can also create a facial scrub with turmeric, olive oil and lime juice. The acid in the lime juice in addition to the turmeric and olive oil will gradually lighten your skin. Another idea is to make a olive oil facial scrub with raw sugar and milk. The lactic acid in the milk works with the olive oil to lighten your skin while the sugar exfoliates your skin. After using a sugar scrub it’s always good to moisturize your skin with lotion. Another good skin lightening remedy with olive oil is to make a scrub with sea salt, lemon juice and cayenne pepper in addition to the olive oil. The cayenne pepper increases blood circulation while the sea salt exfoliates your skin and the lemon juice lightens the skin. Another idea is to make a facial mask out of olive oil, ground ginger and milk. You can also mash some ripe avocados and mix it with olive oil and lime juice for skin lightening benefits. And if you have pearl powder you can combine this with olive oil and yogurt for a hydrating facial mask that also lightens your skin. A mixture of sandalwood paste, sea salt and olive oil also work for skin lightening benefits.

Before you create the skin lightening remedies with olive oil, talk with your dermatologist to determine if an olive oil skin lightening treatment would work best for your skin type. If you need additional recipe ideas for using olive oil as a skin lightener, read some beauty articles online and in print and write these recipes down. Finally, you can talk to a herbalist you know and get recommendations on lightening your skin with olive oil.
